This institution symbolizes a progressive continuum stemming from the genesis of the Shri Puranchandra Gupta Smarak Trust in 1987, conceived as a homage to the indelible legacy of the late Shri Puran Chandra Gupta, the visionary founder of the illustrious Dainik Jagran Newspaper.The Jagran College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Kanpur stands distinguished as a premier multidisciplinary institution of higher learning, duly recognized under sections 2F and 12B of the UGC Act of 1956. Established in 2006 within the ambit of the self-financing scheme of CSJM University, its commitment to academic excellence resonates through its curriculum and scholarly endeavors.

From its humble beginnings with 50 students in BA and B.Com programs, the College has expanded to 3300 students across seven programs, illustrating its dedication to academic growth and enrichment. The overarching objective of the college is to facilitate superior educational endeavors while cultivating the personas of dynamic youth poised to assume leadership roles in the forthcoming era. Furthermore, it endeavors to foster the development of students as socially and globally responsible members of society, equipped to contribute meaningfully to national and international progress.   • Jagran College stands as a prominent entity in Kanpur, renowned for its offering of six undergraduate and one postgraduate program. Under the stewardship of a supportive and visionary management, its plenary objective is to address the educational, spiritual, cultural, and philanthropic requisites of society at large with scholarly rigor and commitment.
  • Infrastructure
  1. The College is centrally located in the city of Kanpur and is well connected by all means of transport.
  2. The college campus is spread over a 14000 sq. meter area, having well-furnished and equipped classrooms, library, computer-lab, conference hall, auditorium, administrative hall and common room for girls and boys.
  3. Furthermore, clean drinking water facility, water coolers and RO are installed throughout the campus
  4. Upgraded IT and ICT facilities with Wi-Fi and LAN connectivity.
  5. Play grounds, indoor games, career counseling / student welfare cell and canteen for students are also available.
  6. Modern library facility with more than 7,500 books and various journals. In view of online education, the college has registered with N-List in order to provide access to e-resources to students, researchers and faculty from college through servers installed at the INFLIBNET center. It has also registered with National Digital Library of India (NDLI)

  1. The College is affiliated to CSJM University, Kanpur and has to adhere to the curriculum and examination system designed by the University. Thus, the college does not have the freedom or any opportunity to make changes in the curriculum as per contemporary requirements.
  2. Due to the huge curriculum relative to the time available for imparting it the College has limited opportunity for Industry-academia integration.
  3. The College has limited MOUs with organizations for Internships. Besides students at under graduate level lack professional attitude towards these opportunities and often efforts made by training and placement cell go in vain due to lethargic attitude of the students.
  • Internal Factors  
  1. A high student-teacher ratio restricts the individual attention given to students.
  2. The College has to work on setting up a Ph.D. research center.
  • Institutional Opportunity

Opportunities provide the platform for an institution in fixing the weaknesses and leveraging the strengths. Through a comprehensive learning environment and by exploring opportunities we aim to awaken youth to “Learn, Discover, Share, and Create” and make the world a better place to live in.

  1. Since a number of faculty members have completed Ph.D., there is scope for establishing Ph.D. Centre and obtaining Research Guide-ship.
  2. To promote research of good standards, software for statistical analysis, Plagiarism testing can be installed in the College.
  3. The distance learning center of IGNOU can be started.
  4. Digitalisation of more classrooms for enhancing the usage of ICT in the teaching learning process can be undertaken.
  5. There is scope for using the in- house capabilities for enhancing technology upgrade.

  2. The College offers multi-disciplinary programs which provide an opportunity to introduce more interdisciplinary courses.

The College faces challenges in motivating students to be career oriented and to participate in activities in large numbers.

  • Student Related:
  1. It is difficult to motivate students to undertake internships, training programs etc., which are not compulsory.
  2. College offers major programs at undergraduate level and offers only one post-graduate program in M.com as a result encouraging research aptitude among students is quite challenging.
  3. Persuading students to use library resources effectively.
  4. Guiding students to be focused on their careers.
  5. Excessive use of social media by students.
  • Others
  1. Difficult to make all stakeholders IT trained to support the E-Governance system.
  2. It is not easy to bridge the gap between Industry Academia interface through industrial linkages / collaborations
  3. Sometimes responses of students and availability of trainers are not encouraging
  4. More certificate courses in emerging areas can be introduced.
  5. Continuous up gradation of computer infrastructure due to change in syllabus and new LMS systems involves high cost, both financially and technically.

Criterion I –

Curricular Aspects

Jagran College is affiliated to CSJM University, Kanpur and follows the curriculum designed by the university. College offers B. A, B.Sc. B. Com, B.com (Hons.) BBA and BCA at undergraduate and M.com at postgraduate level.  College transforms its curriculum by adopting teaching to learning; skills to thinking; content to process; and teacher instruction to student demonstration-based practices in line with NEP-2020.  It conducts various classroom, co-curricular and extension activities, assigns projects, and organizes collaborative training /workshops and other value-added programs. College has the advantage of introducing five vocational programs and successfully implemented the flexible learning based on NEP from 2021-2022. It provides new forms of learning resources, regularly assesses students’ performance, and maintains continuous monitoring system of all the learning process. Moreover, it ensures that the crosscutting issues relevant to Professional Ethics, Gender, Human Values, Environment and Sustainability gets equal representation in the curriculum to sensitize student’s holistic growth as sensitive and responsible citizen of the country. To develop these values in new generation students for a meaningful life with happiness in an increasingly dynamic environment, it undertakes various initiatives from time to time. College nurtures a culture of social responsibility and sustainability and seeks to create environmentally conscious generation that can steer the world towards a more sustainable future. It has formed 17 active clubs each represented by an ambassador for creating awareness regarding sustainable development goals of UN. 

 

 

Criterion II–

Teaching-learning and Evaluation

College has a diverse student population with most coming from the local community and a small number of students from other nearby districts. About 14500 students were enrolled during the last five years. The College has well qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty. Teachers are also encouraged to acquire higher qualifications and awards. They practice a teaching methodology where they act as a facilitator, guiding students through the student-centric learning process and helping them to develop critical thinking skills rather than simply imparting knowledge. It involves a variety of teaching methods and techniques that prioritize the needs and abilities of individual students. This facilitates hands-on experiential learning, participative learning, project-based learning experiences, individual and group activities, and the use of technology to support and enhance learning. College adheres to all the guidelines of the CSJM University and prescribed syllabi available on the University website and on college website, in the library and with the Departmental Coordinators. The institute conducts the internal examination as per the academic calendar. Students’ performance is evaluated through assignments, internal exams, and project presentations. To strengthen the learning outcomes various FDP’s / workshops are organized by the college to gain conceptual clarity. Transparency is maintained in the internal as well as external assessment and the grievance redressal system is time- bound and efficient. It has highly supportive environment for students and strives to create an atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning in the implementation of curriculum.

 

Criterion III –

Research, Innovations and Extension

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in order to integrate innovative mindset, creative thinking and entrepreneurial excellence among students organizes Research Workshops, Guest Lectures, FDP’s, E-Learning Sessions for faculty members and students.

The Research and Development Cell of college organizes workshops on Research Methodology to empower and encourage faculty members and students for Paper Publication and Presentations in various International and National conferences.

The laboratories are well equipped and all necessary facilities are made available to researchers including good number of reference books and journals, full support to research-active faculty members to seek accreditation as a research guide and to conduct and supervise research in their area of their expertise. Teachers motivate the students to present their research work and innovative ideas at Seminars, Conferences and Business Plan Competitions

  • . Over the past five years, good number research articles have been published in various UGC-listed , UGC – CARE listed , ISSN and peer reviewed journals.
  •         The faculty is actively involved into publication of books / chapter in books and research papers in the proceedings of various conferences.
  • one research projects have been approved by University Grant Commission (UGC) and university funding body in the last five years.

Jagran Innovation, Incubation and Startup Cell (JIISC) organizes training programs and Interactive Sessions with successful entrepreneurs and innovative activities.

The state-of-art-college building spanning over four floors with essential amenities like an elevator, wi-fi enabled lecture theatres, well equipped science labs, splendid library etc. ensure that instructional quality is top-notch besides augmenting facilities such as a Training and Placement Cell, counselling services, auditorium, music and fine arts and a canteen, catering to the diverse needs of  students facilitate academic and cultural activities amicably, fostering a conducive environment for learning and research.

Along with intellectual development physical development of students is nurtured through regular sports with the help of indoor and outdoor games, yoga sessions etc. Events like Kalanjali showcase and promote cultural expression among students. The eco-friendly campus incorporates waste management systems and rainwater harvesting aligned with broader efforts to minimize its ecological footprint.
